Privacy and submitted lookups

Word Says Hi sends a lookup only after you submit the form. Typing a word or opening the editorial demo does not send a query.

What is sent and retained

The submitted word and optional language hint go through this site's Worker to Qomza's analysis gateway. Each lookup also carries technical request metadata: the IP address Cloudflare sees for your connection, an approximate language preference taken from your browser, a per-request identifier, and service details such as the app name, version, and request type.

Qomza's gateway keeps what you send for each lookup, the result it returns, and related service information in its records. These records are not deleted automatically; they stay there until the gateway operator removes them.

For abuse prevention, Cloudflare applies a best effort limit configured for 10 analysis requests per 60 seconds per connecting IP in each Cloudflare location. Enforcement can vary by location, and people sharing a public IP may share the allowance.

Do not include passwords, payment details, authentication codes, or other secrets in a lookup. The language field is optional and should be used only to clarify a word's language.

Website analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics automatically adds a beacon to pages served through Cloudflare. It reports page visits, page paths (not query strings), referring pages and sources, approximate country, browser and device type, and browser performance metrics to this site's /cdn-cgi/rum endpoint. Cloudflare says it receives the source IP with each report but discards it at the nearest data center without storing it in core databases or logs; the beacon uses no browser storage and does not track individuals across customer sites. Unsampled beacon data is retained for seven days before aggregation.

Editorial demo

The editorial demo uses an invented word to show the atlas layout. It is not a research result and is never sent to the gateway.
